Philosophy of Care

Respectful Partnership. You are the expert on your body and your life. I am trained in how the body and mind works and the use of testing and medication to optimize health. Communication and mutual respect for each other's knowledge is at the heart of personalized care and evidence-based medicine.

Meet You Where You Are. This is a safe space to discuss or work on health issues knowing that change happens slowly and only when we are ready for it. No judgement if you decide not to take a medication or you read something online you want to discuss; we're in a healing process together and all this is important.

Context Matters. We are part of our environment, and these pieces needs to be considered. Whether it is the impact of work, family, sleep, season. Holistic treatment of you considers all of these things.

About Me.

I graduated from medical school in my hometown of Iasi, Romania, in 1995.  This was 6 short years after the fall of communism and things were changing quickly in my home country. During those years, I was frankly more interested in politics, movies, literature and philosophy rather than a career in medicine. Being a young doctor was not a very attractive prospect. In truth, I had no vocational aspirations and was in some ways, a willing victim of unexpected societal change as well as the vagaries of growing up.

After graduation I took several years off, did a variety of different things (I worked for a radio station and had my own nighttime talkshow, I worked for a pharmaceutical company and wrote poetry), read a lot and listened to a lot of music and then tried to figure out what I wanted to be when I grow up. Looking back,  I’m happy I spent those years as I did and I believe those life experiences prepared me to be a better doctor.

In 1999 I moved to the US and after several years of exams and studying I started training in adult psychiatry at the University of Chicago. Those years were amazing and I had the chance to learn from some of the best at one of the best universities in the world. I then moved on to complete additional training in child and adolescent psychiatry at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Training in child and adolescent psychiatry was very fulfilling and completed my overall professional development. It also gave me a deeper understanding of human development which has helped me become better in my clinical work.
